My Story

Born in the small town of Haarlem, Holland, I grew up in the beach community of Santa Monica, California. At 17, I joined

the United States Marine Corps where I served from 1964 - 1967 as a front-line combat warrior and rifleman. I served with two legendary infantry battalions, 1/9/3 and 3/3/3, and later as a military policeman.

After serving in the United States Armed Forces, I attended the University of California Los Angeles and California State University, Northridge. I earned an undergraduate degree in business and went on to earn an MBA at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. I also earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA.

For twenty-four years I have instructed as an adjunct professor at the University of Nevada, Reno. I am currently instructing graduate business courses at California State University, Monterey Bay.

I have published numerous business-related articles in highly respected peer-reviewed academic journals that specialize in the managerial sciences field. As a college professor for almost forty years, I have also published research in three book chapters.

Besides teaching graduate-level business courses and performing research in the business arena, I am the founder and principal advisor at Schaap Consulting. My firm specializes in the strategic management business process. Additionally, I have had the honor to be a guest speaker and advisor for the award-winning Michael Bosma radio talk show.

I was married for thirty-nine years to my late wife Marilyn. We have one child—Joshua—who lives in Reno, Nevada with his wife Jenny.

Dr. Jamy Schaap’s Vietnam:  My War – Five Decades Later is an insightful and heartfelt reflection of the Vietnam War through the teenage eyes of a Marine Grunt that lived the experience on the front lines. His reflection is now tempered by age and wisdom which puts the war, both for him and his generation, in much clearer perspective. Highly intense action, emotion, and humor abound.

Colonel Stephen M. Pomeroy (Retired), USMC.  Currently, Associate Director, School of Business Management, Norwich University.
