My Story
Born in the small town of Haarlem, Holland, I grew up in the beach community of Santa Monica, California. At 17, I joined
the United States Marine Corps where I served from 1964 - 1967 as a front-line combat warrior and rifleman. I served with two legendary infantry battalions, 1/9/3 and 3/3/3, and later as a military policeman.
After serving in the United States Armed Forces, I attended the University of California Los Angeles and California State University, Northridge. I earned an undergraduate degree in business and went on to earn an MBA at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. I also earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Fielding Graduate University, Santa Barbara, CA.
For twenty-four years I have instructed as an adjunct professor at the University of Nevada, Reno. I am currently instructing graduate business courses at California State University, Monterey Bay.
I have published numerous business-related articles in highly respected peer-reviewed academic journals that specialize in the managerial sciences field. As a college professor for almost forty years, I have also published research in three book chapters.
Besides teaching graduate-level business courses and performing research in the business arena, I am the founder and principal advisor at Schaap Consulting. My firm specializes in the strategic management business process. Additionally, I have had the honor to be a guest speaker and advisor for the award-winning Michael Bosma radio talk show.
I was married for thirty-nine years to my late wife Marilyn. We have one child—Joshua—who lives in Reno, Nevada with his wife Jenny.
